State Senate Closes Loophole

The state Senate has voted to close a campaign disclosure loophole that enabled an insurance company to secretly funnel nearly a $1 million to the Republican Party shortly before last November´s election.
The Senate sent the Assembly a bill this morning that would require that donations of a $1,000 or more that are made to political parties within 16 days before an election be disclosed within 24 hours.
Donations of that size made directly to candidates must meet that requirement, but contributions to political parties are exempt.
