Unemployment Rate Steady
Sonora, CA – There was slight movement in the October unemployment rate for the Mother Lode, but the State has remained unchanged. California’s rate stayed steady at 7.3%.
The figures released today by the state Employment Development Department show increasing gains since the recession-era high of 12.4% set in February of 2010.
In the Mother Lode, Tuolumne County’s rate inched up to 7.1% from 7.0% in September. Calaveras County’s dipped slightly from 7.7% to 7.6% for October. The highest unemployment rate in the state is in Imperial County, which is 23.7% down from 23.9% in September. Marin County has the lowest rate at 3.9%.
Last month, California added 41,500 jobs, totaling 15.5 million nonfarm payroll jobs, after a 14,200-job loss in September.
The highest gains were posted in the professional and business services with an increase of 12,500 jobs. Mining, logging, and financial activities reported declines.
The Nation’s unemployment rate decreased in October to 5.8 percent.
