Cruisin In The Frogmobile

Sponsored by:

Angels Camp, CA — Forget hopping around, these frogs are riding in style.

All week long, the Calaveras County’s Celebrated Jumping Frogs made their annual public appearance tour in the new frogmobile. The frogs along with their entourage of handlers and Frog Jump Committee members stood out on Sacramento and Calaveras County streets in a new van all decked out with frog graphics (picture in the upper left hand box).

The next stop for the frogmobile is May 11 at West Point School at 10 a.m. A history note: This year marks the 150th anniversary of the publication of Mark Twain’s story that started it all – “The Celebrated Jumping Frogs of Calaveras County.”  In celebration this year, organizers have slashed the price to jump frogs by $5. The record to beat was set back in 1986 by Lee Guidici and his frog Rosie the Ribiter at 21 feet, 5 ¾ inches.

The new van graphics were donated from Angels Sewer and Drain and the Wintercreek Foundation. Eric Calialgro designed the graphics.

The Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee runs May 14-17 at Frogtown, click here for more details.
