Smoke To Impact Two HWY 108 Communities

Sonora, CA — The Stanislaus National Forest wants to alert the public ahead of a prescribed burn set to ignite next month.
The burn’s goal is to reduce ground fuels that can produce major fires and threaten the public and firefighter safety. Forest fire officials detail that beginning mid-May, weather, fuel moisture, and air quality permitting, 50 acres will be burned a day, up to 146 total, on the Mi-Wok Ranger District in these two areas:
- Unit 2 is located approximately one mile south of Long Barn, California, along Forest Road 3N90, near the North Fork of the Tuolumne River, Township 3N, Range 17E, Section(s) 29, 31, 32
- Unit 9 is located approximately one mile east of Ponderosa Hills, along Forest Road 2N09, near Mt. Provo, Township 2N, Range 16E, Section(s) 22
Communities along the Highway 108 corridor could see some down canyon drift smoke in the evening and early mornings. Forest fire officials ask the public to refrain from reporting it as a wildland fire.
