Copperopolis Leader Passes Away
Copperopolis, CA — A longtime Copperopolis leader, and Grand Marshall of last year’s community Homecoming Parade, has died.
Walt Ball passed away in Sonora over the weekend at the age of 83. Ball spent much of his professional career as a high ranking official with the Los Angeles City Fire Department, and was the first member of the department to receive a Medal of Valor twice for his heroism.
Ball and his wife moved to Copperopolis in 1990, and was a founding member of the Copperopolis Area Business Association, and Board Member of the Copper Cove Homeowners Association. A notable accomplishment was helping to spearhead the effort to build a baseball park, which has served the community for more than a decade.
A memorial service will be held this coming Saturday at 11am at the Crossroad Church Lake Tulloch in the Historic Copperopolis Church on O’Byrnes Ferry Road.
