Sonora Man Killed In Crash

Sponsored by:

A 20-year-old from Sonora died in a crash Thursday night on Parrotts Ferry Road.

The San Andreas CHP Office reports that Michael Rogers was a passenger in a car that crashed head-on with a pickup truck. The driver of the 2003 sedan that hit the truck was 21-year-old Andrew Martin Willis of Angels Camp.

The CHP reports that Willis lost control of his car going into a turn, south of Moaning Cave Road, and slammed into the 2003 Ford F350 driven by Kristi Ann Putt of Murphys.

Rogers was taken to Oak Valley Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Willis was transported to the same facility to treat major injuries. Another passenger, 20-year-old Marcus A. Phillips of Murphys, reported minor injuries but was not hospitalized.

Putt had moderate injuries and was transported to Sonora Regional Medical Center.

The CHP is investigating what led Willis to lose control of his vehicle. Officials say alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor. The accident happened at 5:20pm.
