MiWuk In The Spotlight
Sonora, CA — P.G.& E. is continuing to focus on MiWuk, one of the hardest hit areas during last week’s series of storms.
As of Monday morning there are 1,634 power outages.
According to Tuolumne County Office of Emergency Services Director Kathleen Rustrum P.G.& E. now has 30 crews of 4-5 per crew plus vegetation management staff in Tuolumne County working around the clock to restore power. Helicopter assessments were made over the weekend. Many pole replacements are in inaccessible areas and need to be replaced by crews hike in and literally replacing the poles by hand. Other poles are being accessed by snow tractors. Contract crews are also assisting in the effort.
At some point today P.G.& E. will be re-energizing power lines in an effort to discover where outages still exist.
MiWuk Fire Station (24247 Hwy 108 next to Big Daddy Restaurant) has transformed into a “warming” station for those still without power. The Red Cross has provided cots and blankets for those who wish to stay for a few hours or even overnight.
In addition oxygen is available for those who need refills. If you have such a need contact the MiWuk Fire Station at (209) 586-5256.
Sand is available at the Columbia Airport on Airport Rd. at the edge of the paved parking lot, the corner of Baker and Birch Streets in Tuolumne and the Jamestown Road Yard on 7th Ave. behind Jamestown Elementary School. Your must provide your own shovel and bags which can be purchased at any local hardware store.
