Update: More Waking Up With Lights In Mother Lode
Update at 2 p.m.: The power was restored to all of Tuolumne County in the one o’clock hour. However, Calaveras still has 1,346 customers without lights, stretching from Wilseville to Mountain Ranch, since PG&E’s largest power shutoff in history began on Wednesday. Additionally, the utility reports that the electricity has been restored in an outage that happened around 9 a.m. in the Copper Cove Subdivision of Copperopolis that was impacting 192 customers.

Plus, a new outage that happened around 9 a.m. in the Copper Cove Subdivision of Copperopolis impacting 192 customers. No restoration time has been posted by the utility or a reason was given, and it is unclear if the outages are related to the power shutoff. The total number still in the dark inside the PSPS footprint is nearly 10,000. PG&E plans to have all power restored by this evening.

Update at Noon: PG&E crews are making strides in turning the power back on to all Mother Lode customers, but sporadic outages have been cropping up while the re-energizing is unfolding.
The Tuolumne County numbers have dropped to just 77, while Calaveras sits at 1,659. Additionally, another outage in the Twain Harte area is impacting 69 customers and in Copperopolis 192 are without lights. No restoration time has been posted by the utility or a reason given and it is unclear if the outages are related to the power shutoff. PG&E plans to have all power restored by this evening.

Update at 10:15 a.m.: Tuolumne County OES Coordinator Liz Peterson has updated that as of 6 a.m. this morning, 98 percent of PG&E customers in the county have had their power fully restored. The remaining 2 percent will be repaired by the end of the day. In addition, the Community Resource Center at the Fairgrounds was shut down last night.
A new power outage this morning in the Dorrington area of Calaveras County was impacting 114 customers, but power has been restored. However, 368 customers in the Tuttletown area of Tuolumne County remain without lights. No reason has been given for the outage.

Update at 9:39 p.m.: Flickering lights in the Mother Lode as some lights come on while others go out — again. While a majority of Mother Lode customers woke up with electricity, the utility is reporting a slight uptick in more outages. The current numbers of those without electricity are 1,274 up from 906 earlier this morning in Tuolumne County and from 2025 to 2,494 for Calaveras. Those numbers can be attributed to new power outages in Tuttletown impacting 368 customers and Dorrington 114. Neither has an estimated restoration time posted by the utility or reason given. The total number still in the dark inside the PSPS footprint is 14,592.

The current numbers of those without electricity are 1,274 up from 906 earlier this morning in Tuolumne County, but Calaveras remains about the same 2,025. No reason has been released regarding the increase. That leaves 14,222 customers within the entire PSPS footprint without power. Original post at 6:20 A.m.: Sonora, CA — PG&E continues to make progress as this morning more Mother Lode customers are waking up with electricity.
The current numbers of those without electricity are 906 in Tuolumne County and 2,024 in Calaveras. After an evening briefing, Tuolumne County OES Coordinator Liz Peterson updated that the utility is now planning to have all power restored by Saturday evening, as opposed to Sunday as originally estimated. At this point, only about 14,000 customers within the entire PSPS footprint remain without power.
PG&E held a press conference last night at the utility’s headquarters in San Francisco. When barraged by reporters regarding who would pay for the shutoffs, Corporation CEO and President Bill Johnson made clear, “These are weather-related events. This is no different than a winter storm. In the policy of all the [state] utilities, this is a cost that we don’t bear.”
