Sponsored by:

Yosemite, CA — Yosemite National Park reports a 9th visitor to the park has been infected with the deadly Hantavirus.

Park officials say that person is from California and stayed in the Curry Village “Signature Tent Cabins” and has since recovered. Three people have died from the rodent airborne illness and all of them stayed in the Curry Village tents.

Health Officials won’t release the names of those victims, but say one is a 36 year-old man from Alameda County, a 45 year-old man from Pennsylvania and a person from West Virginia.

John Quinley Park Spokesperson says “We still don’t a precise reason for the outbreak.” He adds “One possible link being questioned is an increased mice population in the park. California Health Department Officials had talked about that base in part on the results that the trapping success rates that they were quite successful in trapping mice, but I think at this point we don’t have a firm answer on just how those numbers relate to this outbreak. I think that is something we will look forward to in their analysis and report.”

Quinley says there is no word on when they expect to have those results. He says seven of the confirmed cases involve individuals from California.

Park Officials say eight of the cases are linked to the Curry Village “Signature Tent Cabins” and one is connected to the Tuolumne Meadows area.
