San Andreas, CA — The Calaveras County Water District is offering residents tips on how to prevent freezing pipes during the current cold weather temperatures.
First off, the district says residents should insulate exposed pipes and faucets by wrapping them with insulating material and/or electrical heat tape.
Next, locate your main shut off valve in case of a pipe break. This will prevent excessive water loss and flooding.
And finally, winterize that vacant house. If leaving for several days, be sure to shut off the main valve, turn off the water heater, open faucets to drain the pipes, flush toilets to drain the tanks and leave the heat on at a minimum temperature setting.
For more information contact the Calaveras County Water District at (209) 754-3543.
