Calaveras Prepares For Memorial Weekend Tourists
Despite the great economic slowdown in California, tourists are anticipated to visit Calaveras County in droves this three day Holiday weekend.
Calaveras Visitors Bureau Executive Director, Lisa Mayo, was Thursday’s KVML "Newsmaker of the Day".
"The majority of recreational places that we’ve been speaking too, have informed us that their campgrounds are or nearly 100% full," Mayo said. "Also higher end bed and breakfasts are booked as well." According to Mayo, the only overnight facilities not booked this weekend are mid-priced motels and hotels.
As far as tourists choosing to recreate in Calaveras this holiday weekend, Mayo and her staff have noted the increase in fishing inquiries. For local residents and business owners, the Visitors Bureau will be hosting a free informational workshop that will focus on the marketing opportunities offered by the California Travel and Tourism Commission.
CTTC Regional Marketing Representative, Shellie Cook, will present a number of programs that have been designed to be effective and affordable ways to promote tourism businesses and destinations throughout California.
Cook will go through each program giving step by step instructions on how to get involved. CTTC programs include: Shop California, the Land of Wine and Food, Culture California, Golf California and California Fun Spots, just to name a few.
The CTTC Marketing Workshop will take place June 2nd at 5:30pm at the Frogeteria at Frogtown (Calaveras County Fairground) in Angels Camp. There is no cost to attend, but please RSVP to the Calaveras Visitors Bureau by May 29th, 209-736-0049.
The "Newsmaker of the Day" is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
