Modesto Police on Saturday arrested a man after he robbed a woman of her purse and then led officers in a pursuit.

34-year-old Lonnie Jackson was arrested for robbery after he snatched the purse of Karen Law in the parking lot of a grocery store on McHenry Avenue.

The suspect drove by and allegedly grabbed the woman´s purse from her shopping cart.

The woman tried to grab her purse back, but ended up being dragged a short distance before letting go.

Witnesses caught the license plate number and police tracked Jackson through a quick chase.

Officials say if it hadn´t been for citizens pointing police in the right direction, the suspect might have eluded them.

Jackson was found at a residence off El Vista Drive in Modesto, and was booked for robbery, felony evading arrest, and hit-and-run for some minor collisions that took place during the pursuit.
