Sacramento, CA — According to AAA 5.6 million Californians plan to travel this holiday weekend.
Defying travel costs and high gas prices, millions of Californians will travel more than 50 miles over the Fourth of July weekend, an increase of 3.1 percent from last year.
AAA says 4.5 million will travel by car, more than 900,000 people plan to travel by air, and 240,000 will reach their destinations by motorcycle, train, or bus.
AAA spokesperson Cynthia Harris is warning travelers to plan for busy beaches, packed cars, and crowded campgrounds.
She says with the exception of airfare, vacation costs are up, and rental cars rates are especially high.
