A 54 year old Mountain Ranch woman remains hospitalized after a single car crash on Swiss Ranch Road in Calaveras County on Thursday.

The CHP reports that Sally Piaszk was driving westbound, just east of Miller Ranch Road, when she took her eyes off the road for a moment to retrieve her purse. The car entered the right shoulder of the roadway, Piaszk over-corrected and the car left the road and smashed into a tree.

Piaszk was taken to Memorial Hospital in Modesto where she underwent surgery on Friday.
