Mayo Case Assigned To F.B.I.

Hawthorne, NV — The case of a missing Hawthorne Nevada woman last seen in the Sierra Mountains late last summer has been assigned to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The case of Nita Mayo has been assigned an open case number with the agency and has been re-classified as a case of a “missing person with suspicious circumstances.” Authorities aren´t releasing details about the decision to change the classification.

Searchers and family members have spent the last three months scouring the area around Donnell Vista on Highway 108 where Mayo´s car was discovered August 10th with her purse, cell-phone and keys inside. There is also a $5000 reward for information leading to Mayo´s whereabouts.

The last search October 15th and 16th turned up no trace of the missing woman, but was filmed by the television show “America´s Most Wanted” for broadcast in mid December.

The family is planning another search November 19th and 20th to focus on the Hawthorne, Nevada area.

Mayo was last seen August 8th at her Nevada home before telling friends that she was taking a day-trip to California to visit “a village.”
