Update: Local Election Night Results

Update at 10:45 pm: All of the ballots have been tabulated for the evening in Tuolumne and Calaveras counties. There will still be numerous provisional and late-arriving vote-by-mail ballots to count in the coming days. The closest local race is Tuolumne County Supervisor District Three, where challenger Tim McCaffrey leads incumbent Anaiah Kirk by only 25 votes.

Indications are that the District Two Tuolumne County Supervisor race is headed for a runoff in November with Ryan Campbell at 46% and Juli Healy in second with 24%. Candidates in local races need to receive over 50% to win outright during the primary.

In the Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools race, Gabe Wingo has 52.9%, and Zack Abernathy has 47.1%

The District Five Calaveras Supervisors race appears headed for a runoff with Bruce Giudici receiving 37%, Clyde Clapp 34% and Benjamin Stopper 27%.

Original story posted at 11:53 am: Sonora, CA — The Central Sierra Broadcasting stations will start airing twice-hourly election updates after the Vote Centers close at 8 pm this evening.

They include AM 1450/FM 102.7 KVML, Star 92.7, and 93.5 KKBN.

The results will also be posted in the myMotherLode.com election section (make sure to refresh the page throughout the evening).

Typically, the county election office releases 3-4 updates throughout the night as additional ballots are tabulated. As of this morning, Tuolumne County Clerk and Auditor-Controller Donny McNair reports that around 13,500 ballots were received thus far (38% voter turnout).

In Tuolumne County there are two closely watched board of supervisor races, District 2 and 3.

District Two covers a geographic region around Soulsbyville, Phoenix Lake, and Cedar Ridge. There are six candidates: incumbent Ryan Campbell and challengers Mark Brooks, Steve Green, Juli Healy, Diego Martinez, and Rayanne Tamayo.

In District Three (Tuolumne, Twain Harte and communities up Highway 108), there are two candidates, incumbent Anaiah Kirk and challenger Tim McCaffrey.

The countywide Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools race is between incumbent Zack Abernathy and challenger Gabe Wingo.

Three candidates are seeking the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors District 5 seat: incumbent Benjamin Stopper, former Supervisor Clyde Clapp, and challenger Bruce Guidici.

In the local races mentioned above, if a single candidate receives over 50% of the vote, that person is declared the outright winner. If no candidate receives over 50%, the top two will move on to a November runoff. The more candidates in a race, the more difficult it is, to get over the 50% threshold.

The state and federal races are different. The top two vote-getters, regardless of party affiliation, will move on to a November runoff.

In the California Senate District Four Race, the candidates are Republicans Marie Alvarado-Gil and Alexandra Duarte, along with Democrat Jaron Brandon. In the Assembly District 9 race, the candidates are Republicans Heath Flora and Tami Nobriga, and Democrat Matthew Adams.

The US House District 4 race has Republican Tom McClintock and Democratic challengers Michael Masuda, Mike Barkley and Dan Stroud.

California is also deciding on which two candidates will move on in the race for governor and other statewide elected positions.
