Lightning Sparkes New Fires

A band of thunderstorms moved through the Sierra yesterday afternoon, sparking at least 13 wildfires.

The largest is the Border Fire, involving about 100 acres. It´s burning near the California/Nevada state line east of U.S. 395. Fire crews report they are holding their own. No structures are threatened and there are no reports of any injuries.

A couple new fires reported on the Stanislaus National Forest in the Bear Valley region of Eastern Calaveras County and Western Alpine County.

At this time fire crews are at a 1/10-acre fire said burning on the Bear Valley ski run area. The possible lightning-caused fire is smoldering in forest duff and logs. It is not posing a threat at this time.

More lightning is forecast for this afternoon in the high Sierra region.
