State Sees Over 20,000 Jobs Lost
California´s struggling economy took another hit in July. The state saw a net loss of more than 21,000 jobs.
A survey of employers shows the number of nonfarm, payroll jobs fell by 21,800 from June to July, and by 22,800 compared with July 2002.
The state Employment Development Department reported Friday 25,100 jobs were lost in manufacturing, construction, trade, transportation and utilities, health services, leisure and hospitality, and government.
More than three-thousand jobs were added in the natural resources and mining, information technology and financial activities sectors. For the year so far, the leisure and hospitality sector has gained the most jobs of any industry with 32,000.
Manufacturing leads all other sectors with 60,300 jobs lost this year through July.
