Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante´s campaign for governor has apparently taken a new direction.
At a rally in Fresno yesterday, Bustamante urged some 2,500 supporters to back him in the recall race, and made no mention of supporting Governor Davis.
The October 7 ballot will contain two questions: “Should the governor be recalled?” and “If recalled, who should replace him?” Bustamante told reporters after the speech “The governor is focused on the first question and I´ve got to be focused on the second.”
For a month, Bustamante has been campaigning behind the slogan “No on the Recall, Yes on Bustamante.” But, yesterday that rallying cry was conspicuously absent.
Bustamante later claimed he shouted “No on Recall, Yes on Bustamante” at the end of the speech, only to be drowned out by the cheering crowd.
