Brie Cheese Recalled By Valley Firm

Sponsored by:

A Turlock company is recalling more than 1,700 cases of brie cheese that may have been contaminated with Listeria, a germ that can cause serious food poisoning.

Recalled is Lactalis USA´s President brand of soft-ripened, double cream brie in seven-ounce gold foil wedges that bear the code “sell by 01/10/04 307” on the bottom label.

The cheese was sold in retail stores nationwide.

People should not eat any of the recalled cheese but return it to the place of purchase for refunds. While Listeria may cause short-term fever, abdominal pain and diarrhea in healthy people, it can cause serious, even fatal infections in young children, the elderly and people with weak immune systems. Lactalis says no illnesses have been reported. The contaminated cheese was discovered during routine testing.
