More Evacuations Ordered In SoCal Fire
A wildfire burning out of control has forced the evacuation of more communities in the mountains east of San Diego. Officials partially evacuated the rural town of Warner Springs late yesterday. The Los Coyotes Indian Reservation also has been evacuated. There is a voluntary evacuation in effect in Borrego Springs, where officials are worried about poor air quality. A total of about five thousand people have been affected. The Pines fire jumped a containment line late last night, causing a setback for firefighters working to contain the blaze. There was no estimate on containment today. Overnight the fire burned 12,000 acres, bringing the eight-day total to more than 47,000 acres. It has destroyed 44 structures, including 19 homes. The fire began on July 29th when a National Guard helicopter on an anti-drug patrol clipped a power line.
