End Of Road For Angels Camp Clinic?

Sponsored by:

Angels Camp, CA — After a lengthy debate last night, the Angels Camp City Council voted down Mark Twain Medical Center’s proposal to build a clinic on Dogtown Road.

The 15,000 square ft. facility was planned for 170 Dogtown Road. It was a joint project between Dignity Health, the Mark Twain Medical Center Foundation and the Mark Twain Health Care District.

There were complaints raised by residents of the Dogtown Road area related to increased traffic, and access issues for homes and businesses.  Proponents of the project have touted the increased medical options and jobs it would bring the community.

This past June the City Council voted to send the project plans back to the Planning Commission in an attempt to work out the issues of contention, but a common ground could not be found that would please everyone.

“The decision by the City Council last night, I believe, will end the Mark Twain Healthcare District’s process in regards to the property on Dogtown Road,” says Daymon Doss, Healthcare District CEO. “We will have a board meeting on Monday, the 27th, and the offer to the seller expires on October 31st.  I doubt that we will renew the offer.”

On the question of whether an alternative location in Angels Camp will be considered for a future clinic, Doss says, “Not at this time. I do think we need to take a good look at the decision to build a facility in Angels Camp, and what might be the options, but I don’t think it’s time to rush into the next decision.”

Last night’s City Council meeting was held at Bret Harte High School in order to fit the large crowd that attended.
