Are there any special accommodations for children having surgery?

We allow parents to be with their child for as long as possible before surgery and again when the child is waking up after surgery. We also try to schedule children for surgery as early as possible in the morning. Many children don’t understand why they can’t eat or drink before the procedure and that can add stress for child and parent alike. If the child is anxious, we also have special sedation medications just for kids to help keep them calm.
