Berryhill Losing Ag Committee Chairmanship
Sacramento, CA — Republican Senator Tom Berryhill is losing his Chairmanship of the Senate’s Food and Agriculture Committee.
The change is being spearheaded by Democratic Senate Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg. It is regarding comments Berryhill made to a reporter indicating that there is no reason for Republicans to submit a budget proposal that would be an alternative to Governor Jerry Brown’s. Berryhill told the Sacramento Bee that the budget “is really not our problem.”
Berryhill will be replaced by Anthony Cannella on the Food and Agriculture Committee.
Although the change is not expected to become official until next week, Berryhill has released a short statement that indicates that the decision is final. “I would like to congratulate Anthony Cannella on his appointment as Chair of the Agriculture Committee,” says Berryhill. “Anthony is a good friend and I look forward to working with him to address the many challenges facing California’s agriculture community.”
Cannella, a Republican, is the former Mayor of Ceres. Berryhill had been appointed Chair of the committee last week.
