Families Urged To Be Prepared
Sonora, CA — There is an effort underway to make sure that families are prepared for emergency situations.
The Tuolumne County Office of Emergency Services, Superintendent of Schools Office and American Red Cross are sending brochures home with school students this week to help families prepare for a catastrophe.
The timing is partly to do with fire season being just around the corner.
“No matter what time of year it is, it’s always good to prepare in advance,” says OES Coordinator Kathleen Rustrum. “Families should have a plan of what they’re going to do, where they’re going to go and what they need in an emergency kit.”
The effort is part of a “Family Preparedness Project” funded by the Department of Homeland Security.
One of the comments from the 2008 Grand Jury was that there wasn’t enough public outreach by the county to provide information on how to prepare for a catastrophic event. This project is one of the ways the county is working to resolve that conflict.
