Columbia College Looks Towards Future
Columbia, CA — Columbia College is celebrating two expansion projects today.
A topping off ceremony for the Science and Natural Resources Building will be held at 3:15pm and a ribbon cutting for the Laurel Child Development and Family Services Center will begin at 4pm.
Both projects were funded through Measure E Bonds.
"I think the community will be thrilled when they see how beautiful the Child Development Center is," says Dr. Joan Smith, Columbia President. "It’s really exquisite, and is going to serve our children in the community and students for years."
The Child Development Center is composed of five integrated single-level buildings totaling 13,100 sq. ft. The new facility will house an infant center, toddler center, preschool center, facility care services and administration center, and an adult classroom for child development instruction.
The Science and Natural Resources Building, which will be known as Sugar Pine, will become one of the largest buildings on campus. The two story structure will have 21,000 sq. ft. of interior space, and a total of 33,661 sq. ft. when including all exterior covered areas. It will house classrooms, labs, offices and study rooms. The anticipated completion date is spring of 2011.
The total cost of the Child Development Center is $6.3 million and the Natural Resources Building is $22.4 million.
