Update: Snow Is Likely Coming To The Mother Lode
Light snow will continue to diminish across the Sierra Nevada this morning, although slippery roads may continue through the mid-afternoon.
A wetter and more significant storm is expected from late Wednesday into early Friday.
A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for both the Sierra Nevada and the Mother Lode, from late Wednesday night through late Thursday night.
According to the National Weather Service, heavy snow is possible above the 2,500 foot elevation.
The total snow accumulations in the Mother Lode could range between four inches to one foot. The total snow accumulations in the Sierra Nevada above the 3,000 foot elevation, will range from one to three feet.
Mountain travel during this time will be very difficult with reduced visibility, chain controls and possible road closures.
Winds may gust as high as forty mph in the Sierra Nevada. Tree branches could fall as well.
A Winter Weather Advisory means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.
A Winter Storm Watch means there is potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel.
