Boy Scout Camp Evacuated Due To Water Problems

Sponsored by:

Beardsley, CA — Officials at Camp John Mensinger in Beardsley off Highway 108 are working to fix their water system after more than 100 Boy Scouts and adult volunteers were evacuated Thursday.

Brenda Faw with the Environmental Health Department of Tuolumne County says the camp was closed due to a lack of drinkable water.

Faw says officials have been working to upgrade the existing water system; however when the camp opened for the season, the water system had not been completed.

Bob Dees with the Boy Scouts of America says the closure was voluntary and he felt it was best to cooperate with the county and put the boys´ health and safety first.

Dees says the new water system will be implemented in August so the camp will reopen next season. According to Faw there have been no reports of illness as a result of the water; however the Public Health Department is looking into the issue.
