Why are concussions so dangerous?
A concussion is a serious brain injury from a direct or indirect force to the head leading to an electric stunning of the neuron networks in the brain. Even mild concussions can have troublesome symptoms that may or may not include memory problems or loss of consciousness. People who suffer a second concussion before the brain has healed from the first are in danger of second impact syndrome, a rare condition causing brain swelling, permanent brain damage or even death. It is extremely important to seek medical attention for any injury that may have resulted in concussion and to follow the physician’s specific instructions for recovery.
