Jerry Maxwell
Born October 1960 in Bad Kreuznach, Germany. Slightly proud of my Army father. Grew up in Oregon and Southern California, with quite a bit of time in Nevada working as a slot mechanic and video technician. Moved to Seattle and Spokane. Lived in the wild woods of Washington. Came to Twain Harte in 2005, and love the area and the people.
I was lucky enough to become a member of the Warlock Air Racing Team in 2006, when I went as the sidekick of Alan Smith (a resident of Twain Harte) to the Reno Air Races for the first time in many years. Alan has been an air race press photographer since 1964.
He took me on as his protégé as press in 2007. We had an in writing and photographing for InFlightUSA, a nationwide flight magazine available in most airports around the U.S. … it was very exciting. Had a couple pictures published. And I was off to the races.
I wrote for the Sierra Mountain Times for two years after that. Went to the races as their representative having been approved to cover the event for their paper. Twice I had the front page, in 2008, with “Reno Air Races: Six Days In The Pits” and the in 2009 with “Reno Air Races Revisited” … provided all the pictures too. Every day at the races I provided coverage on the spot with uploads every night of the story for the day. It was a lot of work.
It has proved to be well worth it. I am now officially Reno Air Race Press. And I have quite a nice group of people here who support me in this dream.
Jerry Maxwell will report at the 2010 Reno Air Races for myMotherLode.com. His coverage of the 47th National Championship Air Race will be presented as a blog with many photos daily for all of us in the Mother Lode. Thank you Jerry!
