The California Highway Patrol’s “Maximum Enforcement Period” will go into effect beginning at 6 PM this evening and will continue through 11:59 PM on Sunday night.

C.H.P. Officer Rebecca Meyers was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

This Thanksgiving Holiday weekend, Myers reminds everyone that officers will be out in force, looking for minor and major traffic violations.

Myers said that officers will be looking for speed violators. inattentive driving (such as texting or talking on the cell phone) and for those who are driving under the influence.

Additionally, the C.H.P. will be helping with traffic control, during the Sonora Christmas Parade this Friday evening and the Angels Camp Christmas Parade on Saturday evening.

The four day weekend has already started early as the inclement weather over the past two days has already brought slick roads.

Under California law, all drivers must turn on their headlights when their vehicle’s windshield wipers are in operation.

And with snow in the region, Myers reminds drivers to carry tire chains and a winter kit that includes a blanket, extra food, extra water and a flashlight.

Meyers reminded everyone that if you see a traffic hazard (something blocking or partially blocking the road) or an accident, call 911. Also wear your safety belt and do not text and drive.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard every weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:45, 7:45 and 8:45 AM.
