Firefighters are battling a quickly-moving brush fire near Groveland on Big Creek Shaft Road. The fire is burning between the communities of Groveland and Smith Station off Highway 120.

Fire officials at the scene now estimating the blaze has consumed 12 acres and is spreading quickly, pushed by 20 mile per hour winds, burning numerous “snags,” or dead trees in the fire´s path.

Officials say a some type of shed or outbuilding was fully involved in flames as well. Additional firefighters are responding to that location, as well as a second helicopter and fixed wing air tankers.
