Two Stanford University Medical Center patients are suing the hospital for allegedly leaving foreign objects inside them after surgery. The suits were filed this month within 10 days of each other in Santa Clara County Superior Court.

In one case, East Bay resident Jacklyn Wilferd underwent surgery last year. A few months later, she learned a surgical sponge had been left in her body – and it had to be removed. The complaint alleges medical negligence by Stanford doctors Pamela Foster and Mark Vierra.

In the second case, Fremont resident Joy Panlilio underwent surgery for a broken hip last year. She sued Stanford physicians Daniel Sze, Jagdip Powar and Cheryl Futerman – saying a foreign object was left in her body after the operation.
