Sonora, CA — The Sonora Police Department is reminding residents that leaving a pet in a parked car can be a deadly mistake.
On a warm day, the temperature in a car can reach 160 degrees in a matter of minutes with the windows open and according to the Police Department, with only hot air to breathe the animal can quickly suffer brain damage or die from heatstroke or dehydration.
They are advising anyone who believes their pet has become overheated to apply ice packs or cold towels to the head, neck and chest. Animals should also be taken to a veterinarian immediately.
