An intensive SWAT search for a man accused of fatally shooting a Fresno County Sheriff´s deputy has been called off after authorities say the suspect may no longer be in the area.

About 140 SWAT team members from Mariposa to Bakersfield scoured the rugged foothills east of Fresno Thursday in search of Mark Charles Volpa.

Authorities say the team found evidence indicating Volpa may have slipped away late Wednesday from Black Mountain near Prather.
