It appears as though the person who will succeed Peter Smith as Calaveras County District Attorney on an
interim basis will not come from his office.

Public defender Jeffrey Tuttle will assume the reins once Smith serves his last day May 29th. There had been
reports that one of Smith´s prosecutors would take over, but that doesn´t appear to be the case.

Neither Smith, Tuttle or Matthews could be reached
for comment.
