California firefighters had some help from improving weather fighting seven major brush and wildfires. But a new blaze of about one thousand acres destroyed three homes in eastern San Diego County. The fire near Mount Laguna was reported at late morning and was listed at 20% contained as night fell. No injuries had been reported, and the cause was not immediately determined. Martie Perkins of the California Department of Forestry said ten air tankers and four helicopters were aiding about 400 firefighters as the fire late yesterday was moving northeastward toward an Indian Reservation.
