Sponsored by:

Yosemite National Park, CA — Yosemite National Park officials have begun efforts to contain a fire that started late Monday afternoon.

The fire, originally estimated at 50 acres in size at 3pm, is located along the Ribbon Creek drainage between El Capitan and Ribbon Creek above the north rim of Yosemite Valley.

Officials are utilizing the park helicopter and hand crews for the attack as well as off-park resources including air tankers and additional helicopters. Crews from the Sierra National Forest, the Stanislaus National Forest and C.D.F. are aiding in the suppression effort.

Due to the fire the El Capitan trail is closed from Tamarack Flat to El Capitan.

Cause of the fire remains under investigation.
