Clark Fork Fire 30% Contained
Sonora, CA — The Forest Service this morning reported 30 percent containment on the 300 acre Sand Flat Fire, located 20 miles east of Pinecrest, and just east of Sand Flat and Clark Fork Campgrounds on the Stanislaus National Forest.
First reported at 2:30pm on Sunday, the fire continues to burn in an easterly direction, and poses no current threat to structures, with some potential future threat to the nearby campgrounds.
Firefighting efforts are hampered by steep terrain and rocky slopes, requiring the use of hand crews skilled in traversing very rugged country. Reports indicate the fire was human caused.
Today´s firefighting strategy includes continued use of water-dropping helicopters to attack hot spots and flare-ups in inaccessible areas, with continued hand-line construction and hose lays supplied by portable water pumps and fire engines.
