Yosemite Celebrating Olmsted Point Renovation

Sponsored by:

Yosemite National Park, CA — Yosemite National Park is celebrating the completed renovation of the Olmsted Point Overlook today.

The National Park Service, the Yosemite Fund, Olmsted family members and hundreds of community supporters celebrated the completion of a major renovation of the famous Olmsted Point overlook along the Tioga Road in Yosemite National Park.

The ceremonies included the dedication of a plaque honoring N.P.S. employees who have lost their lives while employed at Yosemite.

The $1.6 million for the renovation came from the non-profit Yosemite Fund. The renovation includes new retaining walls, educational exhibits and access for the disabled. Exhibits focus on the Olmsted family, wildlife, geology and avalanches in the high country.

Olmsted Point is named after Frederick Law Olmsted and his son Frederick, Jr. Grandson Stephen Gill recounts how they both had a passion for preserving Yosemite.
