Former Sonora Mayor Passes Away
Sponsored by:
Sonora, Ca — Former Mayor Stanley Churchill has passed away at the age of 93.
Churchill served as mayor from 1970-76, and then again from 1980-82. Following his first go around as mayor, he suggested the council pass a resolution limiting a mayor to one term in office. They could have subsequent, but not consecutive terms. The resolution was passed, making Churchill the last mayor to hold back to back terms in office.
Through numerous roles, Churchill served the City of Sonora for 47 years. A Funeral Service will be held at 1pm, Wednesday, at the Heuton Memorial Chapel.
