CHP Sees Increase In Minor Consuming Cases

Jamestown, CA — With school out and summer temperatures on the rise, the California Highway Patrol is seeing an increase in underaged drinking and DUI cases, many of which have resulted in accidents.

CHP spokesman Tom Wills says those caught drinking underage will face severe penalties and officers will be on the lookout for underage drinkers especially with the Mother Lode fair coming up this weekend.

He says very strict patrols will be conducted on the fairgrounds and the parking lots. He says anyone who is caught drinking under age will lose their license for one year and sustain fines and fees.

Wills says CHP operates on a “zero tolerance” policy, and the Department of Motor Vehicles does have the authority to confiscate a driver´s license by administrative action based on a police report, without a judges approval.
