Supervisors Enlist Third Arborist To Analyze Columbia Elm Trees

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors has decided to put off a decision as to whether several heritage elm trees in Columbia should continue to come down as planned.

At today´s meeting the supervisors heard a progress report form Public Works Director Peter Rei, who said two arborists called in to analyze the condition of the trees have two very divergent opinions on the matter.

Meanwhile, Rei says a third arborist contracted to do an analysis is due to arrive in the area by Thursday and should have a preliminary verbal conclusion ready within a couple of days. A written report is expected within two weeks.

The supervisors are putting a moratorium on any further tree cutting until the results of that report can be addressed.
