F.B.I. Says Classification Won’t Change Mayo Investigation

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — Officials with the Federal Bureau of Investigation are saying that a recent re-classification of a missing person case won´t mean much of a change in the investigation.

Special Agent Karen Ernst with the F.B.I. says the change of classification in the Nita Mayo disappearance to “missing person with suspicious circumstances” was mainly for internal, administrative purposes.

Ernst says the Mayo family has also been assigned a victim-witness advocate to act as a liaison between the family and authorities.

She says the federal agency has been assisting investigators from the Tuolumne County Sheriff´s office since late August. The Sheriff´s Department is also working with authorities in Nevada on the case.

Mayo was last seen August 8th at her home in Nevada when she told friends she was traveling to California for a day trip. Her car was found two days later at the Donnell Vista Overlook with her purse, keys and cell phone inside.

Searchers will once again attempt to find clues this weekend in the Nevada area near Mayo´s home.
