Teacher Shortage Not Affecting Tuolumne County Schools

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Despite the findings of a recent report regarding the lack of California teachers, Tuolumne County Superintendent of schools Joe Silva says there is no shortage in this area.

The report says that although California has reduced the number of under prepared teachers, there is a new teacher shortage due to 97,000 teachers expected to retire within the next ten years.

Silva says he is aware of what the state report is saying, but he believes it has more of an impact on bigger cities with low-income schools. Silva says in rural areas like Tuolumne County, districts are able to choose teachers from a well-qualified staff.
