Transit Debated By Calaveras County Board
A new, more convenient bus plan was approved Monday by the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors, though some say they were forced into it.
The plan, approved with a 3-2 vote, will include new service to Railroad Flat, a later-evening departure from Columbia College, and flexible access to the San Andreas Government Center.
The executive director of the Calaveras Council of Governments, or CCOG, is George Dondero.
Monday, Dondero told the Board that should the budget proposal be defeated, the county would violate the California Transportation Development Act.
Supervisors Tom Tryon and Paul Stein voted against the proposed budget for Calaveras County Public Transit, while Supervisor Victoria Erickson approved “under duress”.
The improved system is slated to take effect starting on July 1st.
Next week, meanwhile, supervisors will discuss dissolving the CCOG, and reinstating a Local Transportation Commission in its place.
