Missing Woman Found

Authorities have found a 78 year-old Mariposa woman missing since early yesterday morning.

A Mariposa Sheriffs Department spokeswoman says Marie Elsegood spent nearly 24-hours in her damaged 1995 Cadillac, 100 feet down a steep embankment, awaiting help.

Authorities say the woman ran off road in a windy and remote stretch of Highway 49 southeast of the Sierra Nevada foothills town of Coulterville Thursday, crashing into thick brush. Officials say the car was not visible from the road. She was the subject of a search by Mariposa and Tuolumne county authorities who found signs of the crash early today (Friday). Elsegood signalled rescuers by honking the car´s horn.

Family members say she was on her way to a doctor´s appointment in Sonora but never showed up. She was reported to be in good condition with only minor cuts and scrapes.
