Tuolumne County Flag Contest Finalists
Tuolumne County Supervisors have narrowed down the selection of designs for a county flag.
Supervisors picked two designs submitted to the Central Sierra Arts Council yesterday, as director Julie Muchet and Tuolumne County Flag Committee Chair Tim Johnson looked on.
The process to create an officical county flag began about two years ago with a writing contest which encouraged local writers to explore the community and write about what they felt should be represented on the flag.
The hope was that these preliminary words would serve as inspiration for the second phase of the project, which was for local artists to create actual flag designs.
Both the writing phase and the design phase awarded three finalists and various honorable mentions in each of the three categories: 3rd through 6th grade, 7th through 12th grade, and adults.
The list of finalist in the Tuolumne County Flag Contest are as follows:
Design Contest Finalists:
Grade 3rd – 6th winners: Katie Adams, Blake Hatt, Lizzie Restivo.
Grade 7th – 12th winners: Mariko Nihonyanagi, Daniel Reitz, Brett Wolf.
Adults: Emmett Dingel, Don Hukari, Frank Zimmerman.
Writing Contest Finalists:
Grade 3rd – 6th winners: Rachel Brewer, Jaquelyn Davis, Hanna Segerstrom.
Grade 7th – 12th winners: Jason Cassasa, Amy Memmer, Jason Orrock, and honorable mention winners Cody Biederman, Kayla Gracia, and Sy Vasallo.
Adults: Carol Biederman, Richard Haratani, Daniel Harrison, and honorable mention winners Liz Bass, Ellen Burke, and Robin Somers
