Jumping Frog Jubilee Underway
There will be a whole lot of jumping going on Angels Camp this weekend. The Sierra Nevada foothills town kicks off the annual county fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee today.
Things got off to a beautiful start with the crowning of the 2002 Miss Calaveras.
This year´s queen tiara went to Heather Hjelmervik. She was also awarded with the Community Service Award and named Most Talented.
First runner-up is Heather Lovett, also named Miss Photogenic. Second runner-up is Ashley Brucklacker. Miss Congeniality is Amy Justice and the Director´s Award was given to Jan´et Ward.
Other contestants included Megan Cleland, Rene Baca, Jasmine McGathon and Kate Wooster.
Fair activities get off to an action-packed start with the M&M Truck Pulls tonight starting at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday features the WPAA Grand Prix of Arm-Wrestling at 3 p.m. and Mark Madden on the main stage at 8 p.m.
Sunday is packed with excitement with the California Cowboys Association Sanctioned Rodeo at noon, the destruction derby at 6 p.m. and of course, the grand finals of the frog jump competition beginning at 4 p.m.
The winner of the frog jumping contest receives $5,000.
