Davis Does Flip-Flop On Metabolife

Governor Davis is pressuring federal regulators to investigate the possible dangers of dietary supplement produced by Metabolife International. In a letter sent to federal regulators, Davis demands they look into consumer complaints and indicates he will sign legislation banning the sale of the product to minors. The letter reverses the governor´s position on Metabolife. Two years ago, scientists urged him to ban the product, saying the product´s chief ingredient, herbal ephedrine and caffeine, causes heart attacks, strokes and seizures. But Davis, who received donations totaling $150,000.00 from Metabolife, vetoed the legislation requiring warning labels on the product. At the time, Davis said the state should wait for federal action and denied any connection between Metabolife´s political contributions and his veto.
